Our Helping the Hurting focus through the holiday season will be Shared Hope International’s Mother’s & Babies program. Each dollar we give will be matched to become two dollars. One to help an American girl and her baby, the other to help a mother and her baby overseas. Please give as generously as you can to help bring more mother’s and their babies a home for Christmas, a home where they can experience God’s love, and start life all over again. It only takes $480.00 to help a mother and her child for an entire year. Prayerfully consider what you can do to help.

“What does God want us to pray?” That was a question that Brenton Brown was asking in an interview we watched last night at worship practice.
Jesus’ disciples asked a similar question, they asked Him to teach them how to pray. As a worship team, we have the responsibility of putting sung prayers in people’s mouths, and that same question is a great question to ask.
What kinds of conversations am I having with God? Is it all “Gimme this”? I’m sure many of us are familiar with the ACTS method (Adore, Confess, Thanksgiving, Supplication) I think all those same truths that apply to our personal prayer lives, are most definitely applicable to our public prayer/worship lives. I challenge us all to take a look at our prayer lives, both personal and public, and see if they represent a well rounded, mature relationship with our Father in heaven. If not, like Jesus’ disciples, we should ask God to teach us how to pray.
Matthew Stinson led part of practice last night, and he had a related question as his main thrust: How can we step out of the way and provide a worshipful atmosphere? We can’t make people pray. We can’t make people engage with God. We can, however, try to not be a distraction and make sure that our hearts are truly focused on bringing attention to God.
God wants his house to be “a house of prayer” (Matt. 21). Are we as worship team members in the way, or helpful in that cause?
What do you think?

Stanwood Sound Tune Up Day – November 8th, 2008
What?
Training and Consulting on mixing for live worship service.
Who?
Steve Smith (Former Overlake Christian Church technical director, 33 years of industry experience including mixing on numerous platinum and gold selling albums with 2 Grammy Awards among them. For more information on him and his company House of Worship Resource Team, visit www.howrt.com)
How? Steve Smith will come and do some training and mixing in your church sanctuary, using the gear you have right now. All the sound techs can follow Steve around and learn from him. Primary focus will be on getting the most out of the equipment you already have, but suggestions for equipment additions, acoustic treatments, may come up.
What about the worship team?
You will want to have a full worship team on hand that will play some of their favorite tunes, at the whim of the sound techs.
Worship team should be ready to play at the drop of a hat, slow, fast, loud, soft, just a particular instrument, all together, … whatever the sound techs need for a change!
Where?
In our church sanctuaries!
Why?
The role of the technical team is essential and it is hard to provide feedback and get training. Because every room sounds different and every instrument is different, it can be hard to apply “general” rules to mixing. You can get music lessons at every music store. Where else can you get private “mixing” lessons?
Why Multiple churches?
In order to maximize the time and training, we can do work at a couple of churches in the same area.
This gives us a very short “commute”time. We will get to learn about tech principles that are universal, and ones that are specific.
It will give us a chance to compare to other gear, other acoustics.
It will also give our sound techs from different churches a chance to meet each other.
When?
Saturday, November 8th, 2008
Timeslots: 10-12-2-4-6-8
How many churches?
4 or 5 churches, +- 2 hours each.

Seeing the foundation for our new building being created reminds me of how important it is to have a solid place to stand and grow. Thanks to all that helped make this possible, especially God, without whom we would be living in the shifting sands of this world.
