Cedarhome and Churchplanting: The Maltby Project

Cedarhome and Churchplanting – The Maltby Project – TheHighPointChurch.org

It is my firm belief that the only hope any of us fallen humans have is Jesus Christ and the primary method He is choosing to bless and that is working as far as reaching people with the good news about Jesus in the US right now is churchplanting.  Once upon a time He used Sunday Schools, bus outreaches, VBS’s, Crusade Event Evangelism, … and he still does, but new times call for some new radical methods with the same ancient life giving truth: the person of Jesus Christ.  We need more churches.  We need fresh new churches with new ideas and new ways of looking at things.  We need local communities that people will give a chance.  In the studying I have done, it used to be that people would have a conversation or two or be given a presentation and become rationally convinced that Jesus was their Savior, choose to believe and then look for a church to belong to.   In today’s age it works backward. People don’t want to just consider a philosophy on paper or in a presentation.  They want to see it up close and join in over time.  Now people BELONG and THEN BELIEVE.  People come to a churchplant to help out, to investigate this new spiritual center in town, not on guard because a new churchplant is not seen as threatening institution, but a breath of fresh air the in community.  People who are seeking God go and listen and participate in things we can all agree are good, regardless of our faith: helping the poor, creating positive works of art, nurturing our children, …  They start to belong, while investigating whether or not they believe…. And eventually they do!

A great article on Churchplanting by Tim Keller is available here:

http://www.siyete.com/attachments/082_Philippine%20Church%20Plant.pdf

The Leaders of our denomination, our family of churches, Converge World Wide, are also convinced of the need for multiplying churches, churches that plant churches that plant churches. They are working and praying hard that the Lord would do this work among us.  Our church has sent me as a delegate to be a part of a network of churches that are working together to plant churches and we have been meeting once a month to pray and learn and do churchplanting together.

The closest churchplant to Cedarhome right now is www.thehighpointchurch.org in Maltby, WA.  John Czech, the churchplanter there is an amazing man of faith.  He has been a part of our family of churches for a long time. I met him a few years ago when he was the outreach pastor at Northshore Christian Church in Bothell and he had some great things to share and is really on fire to see God save souls. Cascade Community Church, our sister church in Monroe, hired him as a churchplanter and sent him out earlier this year and they just started.  I was eager to meet John and was glad to spend a little time with him at the “Ignite” churchplanting conference that Cedarhome sent me to attend a few months ago.  As a young, baby church, they are still working on getting all sorts of things ready and recruiting for the various ministries in the church.  God has blessed them with a great team of people for children’s ministry, but have been a little more slim on the volunteers for music and worship.  They have had a fantastic husband and wife team doing music, but have had a hard time recruiting more players than them.

I really felt like God was putting it on my heart to beg them to let us be involved with their churchplant.  I know you don’t have to have a full team on every instrument on Sundays, but I was eager for our church to be able to participate in the churchplanting mission and right now we are blessed.  I have more people available to me every week than I can put on the platform at the same time.  Praise the Lord!  So I begged John to let me send some troops down just to get to experience part of the churchplanting work and he and their fantastic worship leading team (Tracy and Les Laas) agreed.

Our crews have gone down now for a few weeks and when they came back, they all seemed to say the same thing: it was fun, but they didn’t really need us. Tracy and Les are wonderful.  They have tons of experience and we’re sure they will be fine over time recruiting more players.

And now, we have just found out that God is calling Tracy and Les on to a new ministry where they will be able to serve together presenting World Vision to a variety of churches.  I believe this is why God was stirring so hard in my heart for us to participate and send people all the way to Maltby.  This is God’s hand, bringing resources from one place to another for the building of His Kingdom!

So… that is the story so far. Will you pray with me for God’s work at The High Point Church and Cedarhome?  Would you pray that God’s name would be lifted high and that new souls would be saved?  Would you pray that God would continue to lead people to step up and be willing to serve at the High Point Church?

Thank you so much for your partnership, all of you and for allowing us to serve alongside John Czech and our brand new baby sister church!

Your Servant,

-Jason Chollar

Twin City Music Groups May 25 2011

Hello Everyone!  Today in our class during Twin City Elementary School’s Wednesday group we had fun exploring some of the fundamentals of music.

In our class today we explored some of the following questions:

What is music?

What is sound?

How do our ears work?

When we are organizing our sounds, what are 3 big questions we can ask:

  1. WHEN did the sound happen?  =>Rhythm               (Play in TIME)
  2. WHAT sound/note did we hear or make? =>Pitch    (Play in TUNE)
  3. HOW LOUD was the sound? =>Dynamics               (Play at the right Volume)

Thanks for letting me share the joy of music with you.

Oh Happiness!

Oh Happiness! (David Crowder*Band)
Please support these artist by buying a copy of their songs! Just click on the itunes or Amazon links above!  Thanks!
Lyrics:
Oh, happiness!
There’s grace enough for us
And the whole human race

(Verse 1)
Friend or foe
Stranger or kin
All who come
Begin again

Hard or frail
Rich or poor
All in need
Need fear no more

Such a thing to give away

(Verse 2)
All regrets
Let go, forget
There’s something that
Mends all of it

Such a thing to give away

(Bridge)
Sound the church bells
Let them ring
Let them ring
For everything can be redeemed
We can be redeemed
Oh,all of us

Oh, happiness!
There’s grace enough for us
And the whole human race
About the Lyrics: This is a happy song! The lyrics speak of freedom and the joy we have in knowing that there is grace and mercy that is enough for us. No matter whether we’re rich or poor, hard or frail, God is there and there is Love and grace available to us! That is worth being joyful/happy about! This song speaks simply but eloquently about this great truth. (Grace is available to everyone - Romans 3:23-26, Ephesians 2:4-8; be joyful and praise Him! – Psalm 28:6-7, and many of the Psalms :) )
A little about the Music: The music is upbeat and extremely catchy! =) Once you’ve heard the song it’s likely to get stuck in your head. The keyboard part is dominant – and happy – fitting the words. It is the synth-y, bright part that plays a melody during the chorus’ (this will definitely get stuck in your head!!) David Crowder married the lyrics and music together well, and they definitely fit each other.
Here’s a cool video of the David Crowder*Band playing the song live:

Pouring it out

May 2011 Song of the Month

Our Song of the month for May 2011 is a new song by Jonathan Lee and Jared Anderson called “Pouring it out”

You can go buy your own copy at:

http://www.greatworshipsongs.com/song_info.asp?return=songlist.asp%3F&SongId=855

This is only a demo version, so because it hasn’t been fully recorded yet, they don’t have it on iTunes or AmazonMP3 yet. :(

Here are the words though:

Pouring it out

Oh for grace to trust, oh for strength to love
Oh to cast my cares down at your feet
Oh for feet to dance, oh for a heart to romance
Oh for lungs to lift your name so high

My hands go up, giving you glory
I just can’t give enough
You are so worthy Lord,
I’ll keep pouring it out for you
My cup is overflowing with your perfect love
And this is my reward;
I’ll keep pouring it out for you

Oh for faith to rise, oh my soul come alive
Oh my God you are all I need
Oh for feet to dance, oh for a heart to romance
Oh for lungs to lift your name so high
My heart and flesh they cry out holy
Jesus be my one and only joy

Music and lyrics by: Jared Anderson & Jonathan Lee

Scriptures

Here are some great scriptures to go along with the song:

In You O Lord, I put my trust – Ps 7:1

Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. – Dt 6:5

Praise him with tambourine and dancing – Ps 150:4

Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him.For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. Rev 19:7

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Psalm 150

You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power- Rev 4:11

…my cup overflows. Ps 23:5

Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the LORD. Ps 134:2

For I am already being poured out like a drink offering. 2 Tim 4:6

Why did we choose this song?

  1. The Words

We love how passionate the words are about worshipping Jesus.  We had a little bit of a hard time with the “romance” line, but after a discussion with Jonathan Lee, we understand it more fully now: Oh for a heart to romance=Oh for a heart (open for God) to romance.  The words are full of meaning, passion, truth that help us cry out with a desire to love God with all that we are. In some ways it reminds us of Psalm 150.

  1. The Music

Even the music all by itself is beautiful and stirring to our souls, and it fits the music wonderfully, helping to express a sincere worship of God.

  1. A Great Prayer for our Church today

When we sing, we pray twice: once with our minds and souls as we consider the words and once with our heart and strength as we express it musically and emotionally.  This song can be a great “place” to meet God with worship in a way that He is certainly worthy of.

You can watch a video of the two songwriters singing it right after they wrote it here:
